Unstoppable – Answering Jesus’ Call When You Feel Unqualified

This Bible study helps men overcome the lie that they're not qualified for God's call by examining how Jesus used ordinary, flawed disciples and equipping them to love sacrificially, persevere through exhaustion, lead courageously, and live for eternity rather than comfort.

Men’s Bible Study: Unstoppable – Answering Jesus’ Call When You Feel Unqualified

Objective
This study equips men to silence the lie “I’m not good enough,” step into Jesus’ call exactly as we are, and become the unstoppable warriors God designed us to be. We will see how the first disciples—ordinary, flawed, unqualified guys—dropped everything and followed, and how the same power that made them unstoppable is available to us today. By the end, you will have practical steps to love when unloved, rise when empty, lead when weak, and live for eternity instead of the flesh.

Icebreaker (10 minutes)
Go around the group: “What’s one area right now where the voice in your head says ‘You’re not qualified’—as a husband, father, worker, or follower of Jesus?” (No fixing, just listening.)

Key Scripture Passage (Read Aloud)
Matthew 4:18-22 (ESV)

These were not rabbis, scholars, or “spiritual” guys. They were blue-collar workers with calloused hands and messy lives. Jesus didn’t wait for them to get their act together. He called them as they were.

Main Teaching Points

1. The Lie: “I’m Not Good Enough” – The Truth: God Specializes in the Unqualified
The enemy’s favorite weapon is your own voice telling you you’re too broken, too sinful, too weak. But Scripture flips the script:
1 Corinthians 1:26-29 – “Brothers and sisters, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth. But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong… so that no one may boast before him.”

Other examples:

  • Moses: “I am slow of speech and tongue” (Exodus 4:10) → God still used him to deliver a nation.
  • Gideon: “My clan is the weakest… and I am the least” (Judges 6:15) → God called him a “mighty warrior” anyway.

Discussion:

  • Where in your life are you currently believing the “not good enough” lie?
  • How does knowing God chooses the weak change how you view your own shortcomings?

2. With Jesus You ARE Enough – His Power Is Perfect in Your Weakness
2 Corinthians 12:9
– “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”
Philippians 4:13 – “I can do all this through him who gives me strength.” The disciples weren’t ready. They argued, denied Jesus, hid in fear. Yet after the resurrection and the Holy Spirit, they turned the world upside down. Same Spirit lives in you.

Discussion:

  • Share a time you stepped out in faith even though you felt totally unqualified. What happened?

3. Love When You’re Not Loved
Jesus didn’t call us to love only when it’s easy or reciprocated.
Matthew 5:44 – “Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.”
Luke 6:27-28 – “Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.” Real manhood loves first—even when it costs you. That’s how you become unstoppable in your marriage, with your kids, at work, and in your community.

Discussion:

  • Who in your life is hard to love right now? What would one practical act of love look like this week?

4. Get Up When You’ve Got Nothing Left Inside
Life will empty you—failure, exhaustion, loss. But God renews.
Isaiah 40:29-31 – “He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak… those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”
Galatians 6:9 – “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” The disciples kept getting up after every denial, every beating, every shipwreck. So must we.

Discussion:

  • When was the last time you wanted to quit? What kept you going—or what do you need to get up again?

5. Teach When You Don’t Know, Lead When You’re Not Capable, Learn When It’s Not Possible
Jesus didn’t call the qualified—He qualified the called.
Proverbs 3:5-6 – “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” You don’t have to have all the answers. You just have to show up and obey. The Holy Spirit will teach through you.

Discussion:

  • In what area is God calling you to lead, teach, or learn even though you feel completely out of your depth?

6. Be a Man, Not a Boy – Grow into the Man God Made You to Be
1 Corinthians 13:11 – “When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me.”
Ephesians 4:22-24 – “Put off your old self… and put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.” Boys chase comfort, approval, and the flesh. Men chase the call, live for eternity, and refuse to let fear or failure define them.

Discussion:

  • What “boyish” habit or mindset is God asking you to put away right now?

7. Live for the Eternal – Stop Worrying About Death or the Flesh
2 Corinthians 4:18 – “So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.”
Colossians 3:1-4 – “Set your hearts on things above… For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God.” When you live for the glory and honor of Jesus, death loses its sting and the flesh loses its grip. You become unstoppable because your life is no longer about you.

Discussion:

  • How would your daily decisions change if you truly lived like eternity is all that matters?

Application Challenge (This Week)

  1. Memorize 2 Corinthians 12:9 and say it out loud every morning when the “not good enough” voice starts talking.
  2. Take one specific action to love someone who is hard to love.
  3. Identify one area where you feel unqualified and take one obedient step forward this week (lead a prayer, share your faith, disciple your kid, etc.).
  4. Journal: “What would the man God made me to be do in my current situation?”

Closing Prayer (COP – Circle of Prayer) grab a shoulder

Final Charge
The same Jesus who looked ordinary fishermen in the eye and said “Follow me” is looking at you right now. Drop the nets. Silence the lie. Step into the call.
You were never meant to be enough on your own—you were meant to be unstoppable with Him.
