This study challenges men to live with an eternal perspective. In a world that rewards temporary success—bigger careers, bank accounts, or status—God calls us to build something that survives the test of fire and echoes into eternity: transformed lives, faith-filled families, and disciples who multiply the gospel. As men, we are called to lead—not just provide financially, but spiritually. Our legacy isn’t measured by what we accumulate, but by what we invest in Christ and pass on to the next generation.

Icebreaker (10 minutes)
Share one legacy (positive or negative) you received from your father, grandfather, or a mentor. What lasting impact did it have?

Opening Prayer
“Father, thank You for the foundation of Jesus Christ. Strip away anything temporary we’re building. Give us wisdom and courage to build what lasts for eternity. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”

Core Scripture: 1 Corinthians 3:10-15 (NIV)
“By the grace God has given me….. even though only as one escaping through the flames.”

1. The Only Foundation That Holds (v. 11)
   Jesus Christ must be the base of everything—marriage, fatherhood, work, ministry. Anything else collapses.
2. The Materials Matter (vv. 12-13)
   Gold, silver, and costly stones = eternal investments (discipleship, godly character, gospel impact).
   Wood, hay, straw = temporary stuff (self-promotion, comfort, worldly success).
   The Day (judgment) will test it all with fire. Only what’s eternal survives.
3. There Is Reward—and Accountability (vv. 14-15)
   We are saved by grace, but our works are judged. We can be saved “as through fire” yet lose reward. As men, we don’t want to stand before Christ with nothing eternal to show.

Supporting Scriptures

• Psalm 127:1 (NIV): “Unless the LORD builds the house, the builders labor in vain. Unless the LORD watches over the city, the guards stand watch in vain.”
  Without God’s blessing, our best efforts are wasted.
• Deuteronomy 6:6-9 (NIV): “These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.”
  Fathers are commanded to make God’s Word the heartbeat of the home.
• 2 Timothy 2:2 (NIV): “And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable people who will also be qualified to teach others.”
  Paul’s model of spiritual fatherhood—multiply the faith.
• Proverbs 13:22: “A good man leaves an inheritance to his children’s children.” (Spiritual inheritance first.)
• Matthew 6:19-21 (NIV): “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth… But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven.”

Discussion Questions (Choose 4–5)

1. Looking at your current “building projects” (career, family schedule, hobbies, church involvement), what materials are you mostly using—gold/silver or wood/hay? Why?
2. As a husband and father (or future one), what does it practically look like to “build with care” in your home? How does Deuteronomy 6 challenge the way you lead family worship or conversations?
3. Paul entrusts the gospel to “reliable men who will teach others” (2 Tim 2:2). Who is one younger man or son you could intentionally mentor this year? What’s holding you back?
4. Psalm 127:1 says the Lord must build the house. Where have you been laboring “in vain” by relying on your own strength instead of God?
5. If today were the “Day” when your works are tested by fire, what would survive? What one change would you make right now?

Personal Application & Action Steps
This week, choose one eternal investment:

• Family: Start a simple family devotion or Scripture memory time (use Deut 6 as a model).
• Mentorship: Reach out to one younger guy and invite him for coffee to talk faith.
• Daily Work: Pray Colossians 3:23-24 over your job—“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord.”
• Stewardship: Review your calendar and budget. Cut one temporary thing to invest time/money in kingdom work.
