4-Week Study – the Power of Repetition – Becoming Men of the Beatitudes

A 4-week men's Bible study using daily repetition of Matthew 5:3, 12 (the Beatitudes) to build Christlike character in real life. Men meet weekly for accountability while committing 5, 10 minutes daily to read, meditate, and practice these attitudes in marriage, work, and relationships.

4-Week Men’s Bible Study: The Power of Repetition – Becoming Men of the Beatitudes

Study Goal
Brothers, this is a 4-week boot camp in the Word. Jesus didn’t give us the Beatitudes (Matthew 5:3–12) to admire from a distance—He gave them so we would become the kind of men who live them out in the trenches of real life: marriage, fatherhood, work, and spiritual battle. Through daily repetition, God’s truth will rewire your mind and forge Christlike character.

How to Use This Study

  • Meet once a week with your brothers for honest accountability.
  • Every man commits to 5–10 minutes every day reading and meditating on the assigned section (no excuses—protect the time).
  • Read the scriptures out loud. Wrestle with the questions.
  • Be direct with each other. Call one another higher.
  • Memory verse for the entire study: “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” (Romans 12:2 ESV)

Week 1: The Foundation – Why Repetition Matters for Real Men

1. The Biblical Principle of Repetition
Spiritual growth doesn’t happen by accident or in a single mountain-top moment. It comes through consistent, repeated exposure to God’s Word that renews our minds and builds lasting character.

Key Scriptures:

  • “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.” (Joshua 1:8 ESV)
  • “So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.” (Romans 10:17 ESV)
  • “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind…” (Romans 12:2 ESV)

In the world: Repetition forms habits.
In the Kingdom: Repetition forms renewed minds and Christlike character in a man.

Questions for this section:

  1. On a scale of 1–10, how consistent has your daily time in God’s Word been over the last 30 days? Be brutally honest.
  2. What habits (good or bad) has repetition already built in your life? How does this prove the power of daily repetition?
  3. Why do you think God specifically commands meditation “day and night” rather than “once in a while”?

2. The Beatitudes: A Pattern Every Man Needs to Repeat
Jesus opens the Sermon on the Mount with these powerful declarations (Matthew 5:3–12). They are not soft suggestions—they are a battle plan for the man God is calling you to become.

Key Scripture – The Beatitudes (Matthew 5:3–12 ESV):
“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.
Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.
Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.
Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven…”

These truths are meant to be read repeatedly, meditated on deeply, and practiced intentionally in the heat of real life. Over time they move from words on a page → thoughts you think → attitudes you carry → habits you live as a man of God.

Questions for this section:

  1. Have you ever treated the Beatitudes like “nice ideas for church” instead of a direct blueprint for your manhood? Where?
  2. Which Beatitude hits you hardest right now—and why does it expose something in your life?
  3. If these attitudes became your default as a man, how would your leadership at home, your work ethic, and your relationships actually change?

End of Week 1 Reflection & Accountability Questions (discuss as a group):

  1. What one truth from this week struck you like a gut punch?
  2. What specific daily repetition habit will you lock in starting tomorrow (exact time, place, and how you’ll stay accountable)?
  3. Which area of your life is most in need of mind renewal right now?
  4. Pray for each man by name—ask God to break any pattern of inconsistency and establish daily discipline.

Week 2: The Battle – Repetition of Sin vs. Repetition of Truth

1. The Danger of Repeating Sin
Just as daily repetition of God’s truth draws us closer to Him, the repetition of sin quietly pulls us away. Sin never stays “one-time.” When we repeatedly give in to lust, uncontrolled anger, pride, laziness, coarse talk, or escapism, it hardens the heart, dulls the conscience, weakens spiritual hunger, and creates real distance from God.

Key Scriptures:

  • “Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap. For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption…” (Galatians 6:7–8 ESV)
  • “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind…” (Romans 12:2 ESV – reminder that the opposite process is also at work)

Repetition always forms something. The question for every man is: Will it form Christlikeness or captivity?

Questions for this section:

  1. What is one sin pattern you have been repeating that is pulling you away from God right now?
  2. How has repetition made that sin easier or more “normal” in your life over time?
  3. What would it look like practically to break that cycle this week by replacing it with daily repetition of God’s truth?

2. Real-Life Examples – Part 1: Poor in Spirit & Meek
“Blessed are the poor in spirit” (Matthew 5:3)
Repetition Effect: Daily reading reminds you, “I am not enough on my own—I need God desperately.”
Life Change: You stop pretending you have it all together. You begin each day on your knees instead of in self-reliance. Pride loses ground.
Habit formed: Spiritual humility and dependence on God.

“Blessed are the meek” (Matthew 5:5)
Repetition Effect: You are constantly reminded that real strength is under God’s control.
Life Change: Instead of exploding in anger at your wife, kids, or the idiot on the road, you pause and respond with controlled strength and gentleness.
Habit formed: Meekness—power under God’s control.

Questions for this section:

  1. Which of these two Beatitudes exposes a current weakness in your life as a man?
  2. Give a real example from the last 7 days where you either lived this out or completely missed it.
  3. How can daily repetition of these two truths change the way you lead your home and handle conflict this week?

End of Week 2 Reflection & Accountability Questions:

  1. What sin pattern did God highlight this week that you must repent of and replace with truth?
  2. In which specific situation (work, home, marriage) do you most need to practice “poor in spirit” or “meekness” right now?
  3. Who in this group will you text or call this week if you feel yourself slipping back into the old pattern?
  4. Pray for one another: Ask God to make these two Beatitudes your new instinct as men.

Week 3: Righteousness, Mercy & Purity – Repetition in the Daily Grind

Real-Life Examples – Part 2
“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness” (Matthew 5:6)
Repetition Effect: You begin to crave what is right more than what is easy or comfortable.
Life Change: You choose integrity at work even when no one is watching. You pursue God’s will instead of numbing out or taking shortcuts.
Habit formed: A man’s spiritual hunger and thirst.

“Blessed are the merciful” (Matthew 5:7)
Repetition Effect: You are daily reminded of how much mercy God has shown you.
Life Change: You forgive quicker. You extend grace to your wife, kids, and the brother who disappointed you instead of holding grudges.
Habit formed: Mercy that marks your relationships.

“Blessed are the pure in heart” (Matthew 5:8)
Repetition Effect: Your awareness of what’s happening inside increases.
Life Change: You guard your eyes, your mind, and your time more fiercely. You refuse to entertain what defiles you.
Habit formed: Inner purity that flows into outward integrity.

Questions for this section:

  1. Which of these three Beatitudes feels most urgent for you right now—and why?
  2. Where in your life (marriage, work, private thoughts, relationships) have you recently seen the opposite of these truths?
  3. What one practical step of daily repetition can you take this week to begin turning one of these into a new habit?

End of Week 3 Reflection & Accountability Questions:

  1. Which Beatitude has God used most powerfully in your life this week?
  2. What one area of impurity, lack of mercy, or lack of hunger do you need to confess and fight aggressively?
  3. How has daily repetition started changing your default responses? Give specific evidence from your week.
  4. Pray specifically for the men in your group by name—target the exact battles they shared.

Week 4: True Transformation – From Trying Harder to Becoming

1. The Key Difference: Behavior Change vs. Heart Transformation
There’s a massive difference between:

  • Trying harder for a week → temporary behavior change
  • Repeating God’s truth daily → deep, lasting heart transformation

Jesus isn’t calling us to occasionally admire the Beatitudes. He’s calling us to become the kind of men who live them through daily, repeated alignment with His Word.

Key Scriptures:

  • “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind…” (Romans 12:2 ESV)
  • “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night…” (Joshua 1:8 ESV)

Questions for this section:

  1. Where in your life have you been “trying harder” in your own strength instead of letting repetition transform you from the inside?
  2. What would it look like for the Beatitudes to stop being a checklist and start becoming who you actually are as a man?

2. A Simple Habit Plan for Men
Commit daily (5–10 minutes every morning):

  1. Read Matthew 5:3–12 out loud.
  2. Pick ONE Beatitude and meditate on it.
  3. Ask yourself two hard questions:
    • “Where did I live this out like a man of God today?”
    • “Where did I miss it and fall short?”
  4. Pray specifically for the strength and grace to walk it out.

Weekly Focus (continue this rhythm beyond the study):

  • Week 1: Poor in spirit
  • Week 2: Meekness
  • Week 3: Hunger and thirst for righteousness / Mercy
  • Week 4: Pure in heart (then cycle back)

Final Challenge
Repetition in the world builds habits—good or bad.
Repetition in God’s Word builds men who look more like Christ.
The more time you spend in the Beatitudes, the less they feel like rules and the more they become who you are.

Men, decide today: What are you repeating? Because whatever you repeat is shaping the man you are becoming.

End of Week 4 / End of Study Reflection & Accountability Questions:

  1. Looking back over the last 4 weeks, what is the single biggest change you see in your thoughts, attitudes, or actions?
  2. Which Beatitude has become more natural for you—and which one is still a daily fight?
  3. What is your concrete plan to keep this daily repetition going after the study ends? (Be specific: time, place, accountability partner.)
  4. How will you stay accountable to your brothers beyond this group?
  5. Close in prayer: Thank God for the work He has started and ask Him to complete the transformation in each man here.

Brothers—lock it in. Repetition doesn’t lie. What you repeat is who you will become. Let’s become men of the Beatitudes.
