Steady When No One Is Watching

Most of what you do, no one sees. You show up on time. You keep your word when it costs you something. You do not yell at your kids in the grocery store, even though the toddler just knocked over the display. You are faithful in the small things, and the small things do not get applause. This is the week to remember that God sees what no one else does, and that the man you are becoming is built in the rooms where no one is keeping score.

Steady When No One Is Watching
Scriptures
  • Colossians 3:23-24

Paul tells slaves to work as for the Lord, not for men, because the reward comes from a master who sees everything.

  • Hebrews 6:10

God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown for his name in serving the saints.

  • 1 Corinthians 4:2

What is required of stewards is that they be found faithful, not successful or celebrated or understood.

Guidance
Colossians 3:23 says whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men. Paul wrote that to slaves. Men who had no control over their schedules, no hope of promotion, no chance their boss would notice if they went the extra mile. Paul told them to work as if God was the one watching, because God was. You are not a slave, but you know what it feels like to show up and do the work and wonder if it matters. You fix the thing that breaks. You apologize when you are wrong. You stay married when it is hard. You tithe when the budget is tight. No one sees most of it. God sees all of it. The man you are becoming is not built in the moments when everyone is watching. It is built in the thousand small choices you make when no one is. Steady hands are not the hands that do one big thing. They are the hands that do the small thing, again, when it would be easier not to. This week, do one thing you do not have to do. Something small. Something no one will notice. Do it as for the Lord. That is where faithfulness lives.
Notes from the Watch
I have been thinking this week about the men I respect most, and none of them are famous. They are the ones who show up, keep their word, and do not need credit for it. That is the kind of man I want to be. That is the kind of man God is building in you. Keep going. He sees it all. Grace and peace, Jeremy
One move this week
Do one small thing this week that no one will notice. Fix something. Serve someone. Keep a promise. Do it as for the Lord.
