The Church at Smyrna
You know what it is to be squeezed. The raise did not come through. The medical bill landed on the same day the transmission started slipping. Your son is struggling at school and the meetings with the counselor cost money you do not have. Pressure from every side. The church at Smyrna knew that pressure too. They were poor, slandered, and about to suffer more. And Jesus had no rebuke for them. Only a promise.

Revelation 2:8-11
Christ addresses the suffering church at Smyrna, acknowledging their tribulation and poverty, calling them rich, and promising the crown of life.
James 1:12
The man who remains steadfast under trial will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love Him.
1 Peter 4:12-13
Suffering for Christ is not strange but a sharing in His sufferings, a cause for rejoicing when His glory is revealed.
Guidance
Jesus tells the church at Smyrna that He knows their tribulation and poverty. But then He adds this: you are rich. Not in the way the world counts wealth. Rich in faith, rich in endurance, rich in the sight of God. The devil is about to throw some of them into prison. They will face a ten-day trial. Some will die. And Jesus does not promise to stop it. He promises to be with them through it. He tells them not to fear. He tells them to be faithful unto death, and He will give them the crown of life. This is not the prosperity gospel. This is the gospel that holds when prosperity fails. You may be squeezed right now. You may feel poor in every way that matters to the men around you. But if you belong to Christ, you are rich. Not because your circumstances will improve, though they may. Rich because you have Him, and He has you, and nothing can take that away. The call is not to fix everything this week. The call is to be faithful in the middle of the squeeze. That is enough.
Notes from the Watch
I talked to a brother last week who lost his job in December. He has three kids and a mortgage. He is not panicking. He is not pretending it does not hurt. But he is showing up, praying, looking for work, and trusting that God sees him. That is Smyrna faith. That is the kind of steady that outlasts the pressure. I am praying for you if you are in that spot right now.
One move this week
Write down one area where you feel squeezed. Pray over it, acknowledging that Christ knows it and calls you rich anyway. Be faithful there this week.
