You have been doing the same thing for years. The same meetings, the same problems, the same people who do not listen. It does not feel like it matters. It feels small. Repetitive. You wonder if you are wasting your time. This week we face the question head on: what do you do when the work feels too small to be worship? When it feels like it does not count? The answer is not what you expect.
Scriptures
1 Corinthians 15:58
Paul tells the Corinthians to be steadfast and immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, because their labor is not in vain in the Lord.
Galatians 6:9
Paul commands believers not to grow weary in doing good, promising a harvest in due season if they do not give up.
Nehemiah 4:6
The people rebuilt the wall because they had a mind to work, showing that faithfulness in small tasks builds something larger than any one man sees.
Guidance
Look at 1 Corinthians 15:58. Paul has just spent a chapter on the resurrection. Then he lands here: be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain. Not in vain. That phrase is doing heavy work. It means your labor counts. It means God sees it. It means the small, repetitive, invisible work you do matters because it is done for him. You do not see the harvest. You do not get the applause. But it is not in vain. Nehemiah 4:6 shows this in brick and mortar. The wall was rebuilt because the people had a mind to work. Not because they were famous. Not because they saw the whole plan. Because they showed up and laid stones. One stone. Then another. Then another. Your work feels small because you are looking at one stone. God is looking at the wall. This week, when the work feels pointless, say this out loud: "In the Lord, my labor is not in vain." Say it until you believe it. Then lay the next stone.
Notes from the Watch
I spent five years in a job where I could not see the point. I showed up. I did the work. I left tired. Years later, someone told me that something I had done in that season had changed their life. I did not remember doing it. But God did. Your labor is not in vain. Even when you cannot see it. Especially then. Yours on the watch,
Jeremy
One move this week
When the work feels pointless this week, say out loud, "In the Lord, my labor is not in vain." Say it until you believe it, then keep working.
