No. 12September 19, 2026· The Long Obedience
The Ditch and the Road
You have been at this a long time. The alarm goes off. You pray. You work. You show up for your wife and your kids. You keep your word. Some weeks it feels like you are getting somewhere. Most weeks it feels like you are standing still. This is the long obedience, and it is not glamorous. It is the ditch beside the road, and the road itself, and the fact that you keep walking it when no one is watching.

Scriptures
- Hebrews 12:1-2
The race set before us is not a sprint but a marathon, and we run it by fixing our eyes on Jesus, not on the crowd.
- Galatians 6:9
Paul promises a harvest to those who do not grow weary in doing good, but the harvest comes in its season, not ours.
Guidance
The writer of Hebrews tells us to run with endurance the race set before us. Notice he does not say run with excitement or run with visible results. He says endurance. That word means you keep going when the going is boring. It means you show up on Tuesday morning when nothing feels different from Monday. It means you do the thing again that you did last week and the week before that, and you will do it again next week. This is not the Christian life we see on a stage. This is the Christian life in a kitchen at six in the morning. You are not falling behind because it feels slow. Slow is the speed of faithfulness. The man who keeps his word when no one notices is the man God is building into something that will not collapse when the wind picks up. The harvest Paul talks about in Galatians comes to the man who does not quit in the middle. Most men quit in the middle. They start strong. They fade when it gets dull. You are not most men. This week, pick one thing you have been doing faithfully and do it again. Do not add anything new. Do not try to improve it. Just do it again. Let the repetition itself be the win.
Notes from the Watch
I have been thinking this week about the men who taught me to work. None of them talked much. They showed up early. They finished what they started. They did not need an audience. I want to be that kind of man, and I am guessing you do too. The long obedience is not a slogan. It is a decision you make on a hundred boring Tuesdays in a row. Keep going, brother. We are with you. Jeremy
One move this week
Pick one faithful habit you already have. Do it again this week without trying to improve it or add to it. Let the repetition be enough.
