No. 10September 5, 2026· Steady Hands

When the Routine Feels Like Defeat

Three weeks into September, and the rhythm you were glad to get back has started to feel like a rut. Same drive, same desk, same argument with your son about homework. You are doing what you are supposed to do, and it feels like nothing is changing. This is the week most men start to wonder if faithfulness is just another word for stuck. It is not. But you have to see the difference.

Scriptures
  • Ecclesiastes 9:10

Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might, because there is no work or thought or knowledge in the grave.

  • 1 Corinthians 15:58

Paul tells the Corinthians to be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.

  • Galatians 6:9

Do not grow weary of doing good, for in due season you will reap, if you do not give up.

Guidance
Galatians 6:9 says do not grow weary of doing good, for in due season you will reap, if you do not give up. Paul is not talking about feeling tired. He is talking about quitting. The Greek word means to lose heart, to stop caring, to let go. You are allowed to be tired. You are not allowed to quit. The routine feels like defeat when you forget that faithfulness is not measured in feelings. It is measured in whether you showed up. Whether you kept going when it was hard. Whether you did the work even when the work felt small. God does not waste obedience. He does not waste the morning you got up and prayed even though you did not feel like it. He does not waste the night you stayed home with your family instead of going out with the guys. He does not waste the paycheck you tithed or the apology you made or the day you chose to love your wife when she was hard to love. In due season, you will reap. Not today. Not this week. But the harvest is coming, and the man who keeps planting will see it. This week, do the thing that feels small. Do it with your whole heart. God is building something you cannot see yet.
Notes from the Watch
I am writing this on a Thursday, and I am tired. Not the kind of tired that sleep fixes. The kind that makes you wonder if any of it matters. But I know it does, because God said so, and he does not lie. If you are tired this week, you are in good company. Keep going. The harvest is coming. Grace and peace, Jeremy
One move this week
Pick one routine task you do every week. This week, do it with your whole heart, as an act of worship. Trust God with the outcome.
